Sodium silicate, commonly known as water glass or pao hua jian (泡花碱) in Chinese, is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Na₂SiO₃. It typically exists as a colorless, pale yellow, or bluish-gray solid. It is produced by fusing quartz sand (SiO₂) and soda ash (Na₂CO₃) at high temperatures.
